The History of Irish Coffee
It all began on a dreary winters evening in 1943, when a flight departed from foynes for botwood, newfoundland. After flying for a couple of hours, the poor flying conditions convinced the captain to return to foynes and wait for the weather to improve. Joe was asked to prepare something warm for the passengers and feeling a little adventurous, added some irish whiskey to their coffee. One of the passengers complimented joe on the coffee and told him how much he enjoyed it. He asked joe if he used brazilian coffee. Joe replied ‘no. That was irish coffee!’.
Not long later, joe knocked on brendan o’regan’s office door to show him his new creation, presented in an elegant stemmed glass. Needless to say, o’regan loved it and so the iconic irish coffee was officially born!
